I made a jacket

It's been a while since I'd last named a post this way, no? "I made a..." posts used to be aplenty when I was beginning to learn to sew. Then, with time, those items I made were popping up in every outfit post and became so normal for me that I dropped the tradition of giving each new handmade item its own post. I want to bring it back this time, though, because a coat... well, a coat is something else.

I've been toying with the idea of making my own outerwear for years. I lacked the courage to actually dive into it. Then, a week ago or two, I just went and did it. That's how I usually get stuff done. The less I think, the better the result, if not in its physical form, then in the amount of learning that I do via an act of simply doing something.

And so, yes, I've learned a lot here. Like the fact that you don't really do darts in jackets, it all fits better if you make a slash instead. Also you should measure the length of your jacket in the first place because then you just might be able squeeze the full length of a sleeve out of your fabric. Also that sewing on toggles is pain because they're never perfectly aligned, especially on fabric with longer fur/nap that you can't fully control. But at the same time this furry wool is just deliciously warm and I've found out I like looking like a bear.
